![]() The SportCoupé continued on sale in other markets until 2008. For the C 240 and C 320, 4MATIC four-wheel drive versions were also offered in addition to rear-wheel drive.Īlong with the C-Class Estate (wagon), the SportCoupé was discontinued in Canada and the United States after the 2005 model year. The newer 1.8-litre was less powerful but smoother and more efficient than the older 2.3-litre engine (143 kW (194 PS) compared to 140 kW (190 PS). The C 230 Kompressor variant sported 140 kW (188 hp). ![]() All of them used the same 1.8-litre engine, with different designations according to horsepower levels, including a version powered by natural gas. Then in 2002 for the 2003 model year, a new family of supercharged four cylinder engines, dubbed M271, debuted for the entire C-Class range. The third body variant, a station wagon codenamed S203 arrived in 2001. The US model, labeled C 230 Kompressor, became available for the 2002 model year with the M111.981 engine, a 1.8 -liter supercharged inline-four making 143 kW (192 hp) at 5500 rpm and 280 N⋅m (210 lb⋅ft) at 2500–4800 rpm. Mercedes-Benz debuted a coupe variant in October 2000 (launching in 2001), labelled the C-Class SportCoupé and given the internal designation CL203 (see below). There was a version of this car that was made in Korea. Six-speed manual gearboxes were now standard for the entire range, except the C 320. We were very pleased with how the Zwilling handled blending smoothies and milkshakes. While it had a medium-sized motor base-measuring 5.75 inches wide-the square-shaped personal blender did not take up too much space on the counter. The machine was also sleek, simple, and aesthetically pleasing. The Zwilling’s cross blade, on the other hand, was set on the topmost part of the lid and any nooks and crannies were set along the outside for easy access when cleaning. This made cleaning other personal blenders a little annoying as dried liquids and foods could get stuck in these nooks. Cleaning the Zwilling was especially easy too: typically, other machines had cross blades that were inset, meaning the extractor blade was set inside the lid, with grooved sides rising up on all sides. This meant the user could choose their own adventure, rather than being stuck with only an automatic setting. We enjoyed that the settings included both a manual pulse option, as well as an automatically timed smoothie setting. It was easy to use since the control knob had three settings: on/off, pulse, and smoothie. What we liked: The Zwilling impressed us immediately. These similarities were shared between the Nutribullet RX (which measured the largest with a 4.5-inch diameter opening), Nutribullet Personal Blender, Nutribullet NB9-1301 K Pro, and the BELLA Rocket Extract PRO Power Blender. On the other hand, the size of the cup (which had a 32-ounce capacity) was great for adding ingredients since larger items, such as leafy kale or misshapen frozen fruits, didn’t need to be squished down or added individually in order to fit. When tilting the cup to pour, all of the liquids-and any icy bits-rushed forward at the same time. While we were pleased overall with the performance of the NutriBullet NB9-1301 K Pro, we did find the larger diameter of the opening led to light spillage. It quickly became apparent that Goldilocks would have had an opinion: some blending cups were too small, some were too big, and some were just right. ![]() When it came to filling the blender jars, wider openings and larger jars made it easier.ĭuring testing, we poured out a fair amount of smoothies, slush, and milkshakes. ![]() There are, for example, no wedding ceremonies involving an exchange of vows in the Bible. But although there have been marriages throughout most of human civilization, this does not mean that there were weddings. For these reasons, it was usually a man-woman affair, regardless of a society’s feelings toward homosexuality. Nevertheless, marriage, a social technology, has sprung up in most societies and on every inhabited continent.įor the majority of its existence, marriage has been a worldly matter, having to do with the transfer of property, the creation and support of children, the tracking of bloodlines, and the control of women. While some of us naked apes may find one partner and stay with them forever, never straying, history tells us that it has not been the norm for our species. Unlike swans, ospreys, coyotes, and termites, the primates known as Homo sapiens do not generally mate for life. But this has not always been the case, and the wedding dresses we hail as “traditional” are, for the most part, relatively modern, no matter where they come from. We ascribe meaning to these color choices, as if white could only suggest purity and new beginnings, while red could only signify life, luck, and celebration. We tend to focus on color, with white being the preferred choice for brides in the West, from Norway to Argentina, and red being the more appropriate color for traditional Eastern brides, be they from South Sudan or Singapore. Nowadays, whether we are referring to the voluminous white confections found in Western bridal magazines or the sleek red phoenix dresses with mythical roots that are still worn by brides in China today, the wedding dress has become its own kind of talisman. When it came time for their own daughter to marry, a real phoenix flew out of a mountain and presented the girl with a colorful phoenix dress all her own. To make sure that the union was a lucky one, the empress dressed the princess in a beautiful phoenix dress and phoenix crown, and Panhu carried his bride off to live in the southern mountains. He succeeded, changed into human form, and was engaged to the emperor’s daughter. Panhu was not a man, but being loyal and courageous he promised to become one upon vanquishing the enemy so he could marry the princess. One day, the emperor proclaimed that any man who could bring him the head of his enemy would be given the hand of his daughter in marriage. ![]() This dragon-dog, named Panhu, was the servant of an emperor, who was at war with a fractious general. Once upon a time, in a green and misty country at the center of the world, there lived a clever dog who was also a dragon. An ancient Chinese myth contains one of the oldest known references to such a garment, and it goes something like this: The history of the wedding dress is shorter than the history of weddings, and even shorter still than the history of marriage. It isn’t cohesive, exactly, but the truth is neither are the systems on board the ISS and other space hardware. These effects are a bit inconsistent - at one time you’ll hear what sounds like the whine of an 80s drive or system spinning up others reflect a sort of Windows 98SE aesthetic your own interface looks like something out of Terminator. It’s also all viewed through a combination of post-processing effects that make it all feel like you really are viewing it through a security camera system. The creators clearly did a ton of research and Observation, that is to say the station, is a convincing 21st century operation - cameras and laptops are stashed everywhere, and there are sticky notes from the Russian and Chinese denizens, luggage and experiments tucked away or half finished. Do they not understand the same finger does both those things? Fortunately you can remap controls and although mouse movement is a bit stiff, there’s no need for twitchy response time.Īlthough the puzzles are a bit simplistic, it’s a pleasure navigating the station because it is so beautifully realized. The controls can be a bit clunky, such as one that had me hold down s to do one thing, then press and hold w at the same time. When you have to operate something, like an airlock, there is usually a little minigame to complete in which you must figure out which series of buttons to hit or hold - nothing too taxing, just a way to make it so you aren’t just pressing the Action Button all the time. (For the record, it turns out you can turn stuff on and off at power outlets.) I had to look up the solution to one situation, and it turns out I had simply overlooked some interactive objects because they looked so much like background. ![]() If you’re having trouble with something, chances are you’re overthinking it. These solutions are usually just a matter of being, well, observant, but occasionally can be frustrating gadget hunts where you don’t know what you’re looking for among the busy background of a working space station and the detritus of the disaster. Observation is a puzzle game that plays out in real time, though you are rarely presented with a task that needs to be completed in a rush - your commands are rarely an urgent “Open the pod bay doors, SAM!” and more “Something’s wrong with the cooling system, so this hatch won’t open, can you look into it?”Īnd so you search using your cameras for, say, the server that controls that system, or the scrap of paper that has its schematic so you can reboot it. I won’t spoil any of the surprises, but suffice it to say that like in 2001, the mystery runs deeper than that, and SAM itself is implicated. It’s mostly done through the many cameras mounted throughout the station, between which you can usually move freely and change the angle so you can get at this hatch or that scrap of paper on the wall.īut from the beginning it’s clear that this is not a simple case of a micrometeorite or some other common space anomaly. To do so you perform various tasks such a digital agent would do, such as unlocking and opening hatches, checking for system errors, collecting information from damaged laptops and so on. You, as the Systems Administration and Maintenance AI, are tasked with helping her as she first tries to simply survive the immediate aftermath, then starts to investigate what happened. You are booted up by astronaut Emma Fisher after an unspecified event that seems to have damaged the station. ![]() The game takes place in the near future on board the titular space station, a sort of expanded version of the ISS. In it you play a space station AI called SAM that is called upon by the humans on board to help resolve a deadly mystery - though you may be a part of it yourself. When you watch 2001: A Space Odyssey, do you find yourself criticizing HAL 9000’s machinations and thinking, “I could do better than that!” If so, Observation may be right up your alley. Side note: Slack is great for real-time information and “putting out fires” in our company BUT the nature of it’s design kind of means EVERYTHING gets the same immediate precedence, even if it’s not that important. In other words, you may not have to choose one over the other. Having uses both systems, Notion used WITH Slack is really the ideal setup in my experience. Oftentimes it feels like sacrificing one side for at the expense of the other. My TL DR Overview of Notion and SlackĬhoosing the right tool for team collaboration and project management can be a minefield. So in this comparison I’ll break down how I’ve thought about each platform in our business and some ideal use cases for each (or both!). That said, Notion is almost overwhelming in it’s optionality. I’ve seen some really incredibly dashboards and tools that could only have been built in Notion without hiring a development team.
